Personal Profile
I am an ML and NLP researcher, currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at Maseno University, Kenya. My work focuses on developing ML solutions for low-resource languages, particularly Swahili and other indigenous African languages. As a Research Assistant for the African Next Voices: Pilot Data Collection in Kenya, I lead prompt design and project management, overseeing text and voice data collection. Additionally, I contribute to the Mozilla-funded Alternative Data Licenses project, working on co-creating equitable governance models with African language communities. I hold a Master of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, with a strong background in developing technology-driven solutions for real-world challenges. Since completing my undergraduate studies in 2019, my focus has been on leveraging AI and NLP to bridge linguistic gaps and enhance accessibility for underserved communities. Driven by a commitment to community-centered technology, I believe in empowering individuals to contribute to the design of policies and digital solutions that create meaningful impact.
